# Sample management

Samples are defined by their metadata (Sample ID, Subject ID, Visit, Collection date, Birthdate, and Gender) and type (biological type of specimen).

• The sample types (e.g. whole blood, feces or tissue biopsy) need to be pre-defined by clicking on the Sample Types tab. Storage box size and conformation is directly attached to the sample types.
• To add new samples click on the Samples tab.
• Choose between Create Sample for manual entry of single samples or Import for batch upload of samples
• fill in the required fields or upload the sample information entered into the sample template.xlsx file
• Storage positions are calculated and assigned automatically based on the sample type, storage box size, and number of aliquots per sample
